The Victoria & Albert Museum
A Private Curated Visit to the V&A Museum
to see "Fashioned From Nature"
on Monday 23rd July 2018
Forty Broad Street Ward Club members and guests were treated to a special out of hours private view of the V&A’s critically acclaimed Fashioned from Nature exhibition, courtesy of the Chairman, Jonathan Hindle’s V&A patronage.
After a drinks reception in the fashion galleries of the V&A, Yona Lesger, the exhibition’s research assistant then introduced the UK’s first exhibition to explore the complex relationship between fashion and nature from 1600 to the present day. Yona talked the group through the last 400+ years of fashion that has drawn inspiration from, and, controversially plundered the natural world - through to the 21st century innovators who are addressing the issues caused by the industry.
After the talk, the group were then given a 45-minute private view of the exhibition of fashionable dress alongside exquisitely displayed natural history specimens; from stunning botanical embroidery to earrings made from birds of paradise. The last section of the exhibition brought the group right up to date, with pieces from Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood who are forcing the industry and consumers to think and act differently in the name of fashion.
After the event there was the option of supper at Carluccio’s South Kensington. 26 people chose to end the hottest evening of the year so far with Italian food and wine.
