For the Second Event of our new Chairman’s year, Martin Samuel arranged for us to have a private visit to the Deutsche Bank Art Collection.

Justifiably famous, the Art Collection in the London office of Deutsche Bank contains many works by leading artists such as Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and Keith Tyson and we are delighted to offer the chance to be guided privately round the collection. For over 30 years, Deutsche Bank has been supporting new artistic talent and original ideas and the concept of the collection, which started in the late 1970’s, concentrates on works on paper and photography by contemporary artists. There are over 100 conference rooms around the building named from artists from around the globe and in each room a wall plaque provides a short biography alongside the artists’ work and floors and corridors are also hung with the Collection.

A memorable part of the Collection is the Reception Hall, which contains major works by Keith Tyson and Damien Hurst as well as major sculptures by Anish Kapoor and Tony Cragg.

The evening started with an introductory talk by the curator, during which wine and canapes were be served, and then followed by a tour of the building. Afterwards, we walked a very short way for supper at an Italian restaurant for a two-course dinner with wine and coffee. The cost of this tour included a donation to the Deutsche Bank Charities of the Year (Autistica & Hope and Homes for Children)
